Dragonfly White & Silver Porcelain Large 20oz. Teapot

This teapot is simple and lovely. It holds approximately 20 oz., and measures 6" in height to the top of the lid and 7.5" spout to handle, the opening is 2.75" dia. The spout has straining holes for loose tea and the handle is sturdy. This is just the right size teapot for one, especially if your a slow sipper and you like to keep your tea piping hot, but it can fill my 14 oz. teacups and saucers twice, or my 5 oz. teacups four times.

This piece is wheel-thrown and made of mid-fire porcelain. A dragonfly is screen printed in black on either side of the teapot before the first firing. Each piece is then dipped in clear glaze and fired a second time. Finally, the he lip of the pot and tip of the lid are brushed with silver overglaze and fired a third time.

The dragonfly is one of the fastest insects in the world, flying at nearly 60 miles per hour. In flight it has the ability to move in all six directions and has 360 degree vision. Dragonflies symbolize change and self realization. In Japan the Samurai use the dragonfly as a symbol of power, agility and victory. In China, people associate it with prosperity, harmony and good luck. Dragonflies are a sign of happiness, speed and purity among Native Americans.

All my pieces are food safe and areas with metallic overglaze can come into contact with food and drink, but this piece is NOT microwave safe. As with any metallic surface, they could cause sparks. Avoid hard scrubbing when washing because of the possibility of scraping off the thin layer of gold overglaze, it is best to treat these pieces as you would fine china. Although gold overglaze will take repeated washings in a dishwasher, it will eventually wear away, so please hand wash.

This design is part of an open edition collection. The piece pictured may not necessarily be the piece you receive. As with most handmade work slight variations are natural.

I've had to stop accepting commissions and special orders to focus on designing and making new work. Sorry!
